City of Albuquerque finalizes historic multi-year agreements with labor unions

For the first time in recent city history, all labor unions have multi-year collective bargaining agreements with the City of Albuquerque. The seven unions represent front-line workers who keep the city running, as well as first responders who put their lives on the line every day for the community. The City values its union workforce and recognizes how important union labor is to maintain essential services.


Sierra County Public Health Office offers free back-to-school vaccinations

The New Mexico Department of Health’s Sierra County Public Health Office in Truth or Consequences will provide no-cost back-to-school vaccinations for all children aged 18 and younger throughout July. The office is located at 201 East Fourth Avenue, and no appointment is necessary.

As temperatures rise, Albuquerque families have more options to help beat the heat. The city has opened its newest splash pad at the brand-new Westgate Community Center and is adding another one at the Alamosa Community Center, expanding Albuquerque’s network of aquatic facilities.

Jessica Eck discovered her career path after attending the New Mexico Youth Ranch Management Camp in 2012. Reflecting on her experience, she stated, "When I went to ranch camp, I discovered range. I just loved it. I loved learning about all the grasses, learning about the ecosystems." Eck graduated from New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 2016.


UNM alumna completes prestigious German vocal technique program

Lauren Humble, who graduated from The University of New Mexico in 2016 with a Bachelor of Music Education with a vocal emphasis, has successfully completed an intensive three-year program at the CJD Schule Schlaffhorst-Andersen in Bad Nenndorf, Germany. She now bears the title staatlich geprüfte Atem-, Sprech- und Stimmlehrerin (state-certified breath, speech, and voice teacher and therapist) utilizing the Schlaffhorst-Andersen method of breath, voice, and body work.


NMSU Chile Pepper Institute opens teaching garden for self-guided tours

The Amy Goldman-Fowler Teaching Garden, part of New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute, is now open for self-guided tours. The quarter-acre garden, located at NMSU’s Fabián García Science Center in Las Cruces, 113 W. University Ave., welcomes visitors from sunrise to sunset seven days a week throughout the chile-growing season. It features 140 different varieties of chile peppers that showcase various culinary uses in New Mexico and globally.
