Martin Zamora announces bid for Congress against Teresa Leger Fernandez

Martin Zamora, a farmer, rancher, businessman, and state representative from Clovis, New Mexico, has announced his candidacy for Congress. He will challenge incumbent Democrat Teresa Leger Fernandez for New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District. According to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Zamora raised $247,065 in the third quarter of 2025, surpassing Leger Fernandez's $236,834 during the same period.

Despite Leger Fernandez starting October with a larger campaign fund of $550,648 compared to Zamora’s $225,676, the fundraising results highlight increasing Republican momentum in northern New Mexico. "These numbers prove what we already know—voters are ready for change," Zamora said. He criticized Leger Fernandez as a "career politician" who he claims only listens to "Santa Fe elites."

Zamora was elected to the New Mexico State House in 2019 to represent the state's 63rd House district after George Dodge Jr. His campaign emphasizes economic opportunity, energy independence, border security, and protecting agriculture in northern New Mexico. "We’re just getting started," Zamora added. He aims to counter what he describes as "radical progressive policies" that negatively impact farmers and workers in oil and gas sectors.

With nearly a year until Election Day, Zamora's campaign has already exceeded previous fundraising benchmarks set by past nominees and is on track to surpass figures from 2022. His Q3 fundraising reflects broad grassroots support and growing enthusiasm among Republicans aiming to flip the seat in 2026.
