The New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA), in collaboration with the Aging and Long-Term Services Department (ALTSD), is offering a one-time food benefit this month to New Mexicans over 60 and adults with disabilities who are enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Throughout June, 29,444 individuals will automatically receive an additional $68 to assist with grocery purchases. This benefit will be added to their EBT cards on June 3 as part of the state's ongoing efforts to reduce hunger and improve access to nutritious food.
No action is required from recipients. The extra funds will appear on eligible individuals' EBT cards without needing to apply or call.
"Through this collaboration, we provided critical additional food support for important members of our communities," said Kyra Ochoa, deputy cabinet secretary for the New Mexico Health Care Authority. "Using state general funds to create extra benefits for seniors and people with disabilities is a great example of how strong interdepartmental partnerships can better serve New Mexicans in need."
Funding for this supplement comes from the state general fund, made possible by the leadership of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and support from the New Mexico Legislature. These additional dollars help older adults and people with disabilities afford groceries while supporting local economies.
"We are proud to once again partner with HCA to bring additional relief to New Mexico’s older adults and adults with disabilities," said Emily Kaltenbach, ALTSD cabinet secretary. "This boost reflects our shared commitment to ensuring New Mexicans have access to the nutritious food they need."
