NMSU secures $7M NSF grant for distributed additive manufacturing project

New Mexico State University has been awarded a four-year, $7 million grant from the National Science Foundation through the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) and its Research Incubators for STEM Excellence Research Infrastructure Improvement (E-RISE RII). The grant aims to enhance research competitiveness in New Mexico, build partnerships across academic and non-academic sectors, and create workforce development opportunities.


UNM receives $1 million NSF grant for room-temperature quantum computing research

Quantum researchers at The University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University have received a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to develop a photonic quantum computer that can operate at room temperature. This pilot program, titled “Quantum Computing Applications of Photonics,” began on August 15 and is one of five nationwide projects funded by the NSF’s National Quantum Virtual Laboratory (NQVL).

Santa Fe County invites applications for tourism promotion funding

SANTA FE, NM - The Santa Fe County Lodgers’ Tax Advisory Board, in collaboration with the Santa Fe County Community Development Department’s Tourism & Marketing Division, has announced a call for applications for initiatives focused on advertising, publicizing, or promoting tourist attractions and tourism-related events within Santa Fe County. Program funding will be available from mid-December 2024 through June 30, 2025.

City continues routine food health inspections under new ordinance

This month, the updated Food Safety and Retail Ordinance (FSO) took effect. While public hearings for the adoption of new rules and training of food inspectors on the updated protocols required by the FSO occurred, the City has continued with pre-opening and complaint-based inspections to ensure restaurants and food service providers can continue to operate safely. From August 1 to August 23, the City conducted 92 inspections. Effective immediately, all food inspectors will resume routine inspections to ensure safety for our community.

UNM professor receives NSF Trailblazer award for wildfire mitigation project

Gabriel López, a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at The University of New Mexico (UNM), has been awarded one of six inaugural NSF Trailblazer Engineering Impact Awards. This $18 million initiative aims to support researchers with a history of creativity and innovation to explore new research areas. López's project, titled "TRAILBLAZER: Overcoming the Lignin Barrier for Valorization of Forest Biomass — A New Paradigm for Mitigation of Catastrophic Wildfires," will receive $3 million over three years starting September 1.
