New Mexico Youth Conservation Corps opens grant applications for statewide projects

The New Mexico Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is inviting applications for grants of up to $225,000. These grants aim to support projects that enhance public spaces across the state while offering job training to young residents aged 14 to 25.

"We're looking for creative projects that make a real difference in communities across New Mexico," said David Chené, the executive director. He added, "These grants provide a win-win opportunity – improving our state while giving young people hands-on work experience and job skills."

Eligible applicants include state and federal agencies, public colleges and universities, local governments, land grants, soil and water conservation districts, acequia associations, public school districts, charter schools, federally recognized Tribes, and 501(c) non-profit organizations.

Projects should focus on employing youth to conserve or improve New Mexico’s public lands and facilities while delivering lasting community benefits. The grant funds are designated for corps member wages, training, and project supplies.

For more information on application details and deadlines, interested parties can visit the YCC website. Free preproposal conferences will be held on July 31 and August 21 to assist applicants with the process. The deadline for submissions is October 8 at 4 p.m.

Since its inception in 1992, the YCC has been funding community improvement projects throughout New Mexico.
