A male Mexican wolf, identified as M3065, has been tracked moving north of Interstate 40 in New Mexico. The wolf, equipped with a radio collar, was last located near Mount Taylor after crossing the I-40 boundary west of Albuquerque.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish are keeping track of the wolf's movements. Under the Endangered Species Act, Mexican wolves outside the Mexican Wolf Experimental Population Area (MWEPA), including those north of I-40, are considered federally endangered. This status prohibits any hazing or harassment unless there is an immediate threat to human safety.
Violations involving harm or harassment of an endangered Mexican wolf can result in fines or criminal charges.
