Los Alamos National Laboratory: Emergency Management division initiates forest thinning operations within Rendija Canyon

Los Alamos National Laboratory's Emergency Management division has recently begun a forest thinning project in Rendija Canyon. The initiative aims to protect the community from severe wildfires and improve the overall health of the forest. Known as the Rendija Canyon Wildland Fire Fuels Reduction and Defensible Space Project, it will establish a fuel break covering 135 acres next to Rendija Canyon Road.


HSD: A 23 percent rise in financial aid for economically disadvantaged families in New Mexico

The New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) recently announced a positive development for economically disadvantaged families in the state. Over 9,000 low-income residents have received a 23 percent increase in financial aid through family cash assistance programs. This adjustment is the first increase in cash assistance for New Mexicans since 2011.


UNM: The School of Public Administration plans to commemorate the introduction of its new minor program

The University of New Mexico (UNM) is set to introduce a new minor program in public service through its School of Public Administration (SPA). City of Albuquerque: APD initiates collaboration to Share Ballistics Database System with Isleta PD

The City of Albuquerque has announced a collaboration between the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and the Pueblo of Isleta Police Department (IPD) to share the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). This partnership was established through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on September 6, 2023. Under this MOA, the IPD will have access to the NIBIN system to aid in their investigations of violent felony cases within their jurisdiction.

City of Albuquerque: Thousands of “Vial of L.I.F.E” Kits for Albuquerque Seniors prepared by volunteers

The City of Albuquerque recently announced that thousands of "Vial of L.I.F.E" kits have been prepared by volunteers and will be distributed to seniors in the area. The kits were assembled by 50 volunteers from the Department of Senior Affairs' AmeriCorps Seniors program as part of their 9/11 National Day of Service initiative. The kits include a sticker, magnet, and a medical information form, and are intended to benefit clients of the Department of Senior Affairs' home delivered meals and senior services programs.

The City of Albuquerque recently announced that thousands of "Vial of L.I.F.E" kits have been prepared by volunteers to benefit seniors in the area. On September 7, 2023, 50 volunteers from the Department of Senior Affairs’ AmeriCorps Seniors program came together to assemble 2,500 kits, which will be distributed to seniors in Albuquerque. These kits are specifically intended for clients of the Department of Senior Affairs' home delivered meals and senior services programs.


Isaac Padilla appointed director of City Council Services by Albuquerque City Council

The City of Albuquerque shared on Sept. 6 that the city council had given its approval to OC-23-38, appointing Isaac Padilla as the director of City Council Services, according to a press release. In this role, Padilla will be responsible for overseeing the performance of city council employees and managing the city council office in consultation with the president and city councilors.


Annual APD force report shows decrease in force incidents, increase in police shootings

The 2022 Albuquerque Police Department Annual Use of Force Report was recently released to the public, and it showed a few new trends. Overall, there was a decline in the number of incidents that used force by the APD, but an increase in the number of shootings by APD officers, numbers that alarmed some in the Albuquerque community.
