Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has recently been recognized with multiple R&D 100 Awards for its groundbreaking projects. In a press release, LANL announced that 10 technologies developed in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory have received R&D 100 Awards, while an additional six innovations have been honored with Special Recognition Awards.

Among the award-winning projects is FABIA, a portable device that conducts isotopic analysis with high sensitivity. FEVER, another innovation, optimizes biosurveillance tools for improved disease monitoring. GRID-BAL enhances the reliability of the electric grid, while HXI provides nanoscale chemical mapping through hyperspectral X-ray imaging. NACHOS offers trace gas detection through CubeSat-based technology, and KV-CSD streamlines big-data analysis.

LANL's PowerModelsONM optimizes networked microgrids for increased resilience, while Rapid Response Steel Tooling utilizes additive manufacturing for efficient material forming. SPeC produces high-performance optoelectronics using solution-processed perovskite crystalline films, and CANDLE employs machine learning for quicker cancer therapy discovery.

Thom Mason, the Laboratory Director at LANL, expressed his pride in the achievements, stating, "These awards highlight the innovation that is fostered at Los Alamos National Laboratory." He commended the researchers for their dedication to addressing important challenges in infrastructure, disease response, and technological advancements.

In addition to the R&D 100 Awards, LANL also secured a finalist award for their Acoustic Resonance Spectroscopy Mechanical Condition Monitoring technology. This innovation allows for real-time wear and damage measurements of inaccessible rotating machinery, eliminating the need for costly downtime and visual inspections.

John Sarrao, the deputy Laboratory director for Science, Technology, and Engineering, emphasized the significance of LANL's work in improving and transforming the world. The awards not only recognize the exemplary research and development conducted for national security purposes but also highlight the broader impact of LANL's work in various fields.

Overall, LANL's success in receiving these prestigious awards showcases the laboratory's commitment to innovation and its crucial role in advancing technology and solving complex challenges.
