The City of Albuquerque has announced a collaboration between the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and the Pueblo of Isleta Police Department (IPD) to share the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). This partnership was established through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on September 6, 2023. Under this MOA, the IPD will have access to the NIBIN system to aid in their investigations of violent felony cases within their jurisdiction.
As part of the agreement, at least one staff member from the IPD will receive training on the NIBIN system from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). This collaboration between the IPD and APD is the result of ongoing monthly meetings initiated by the APD in 2021. These meetings bring together tribal and metropolitan public safety agencies to address challenges, explore solutions, and foster potential partnerships.
Chief Harold Medina of the APD expressed pride in the partnerships developed between the APD and neighboring public safety agencies. He emphasized the importance of collaborations like this in keeping communities safe from violent offenders. Chief Medina also highlighted the investments made in technology by the APD and their commitment to sharing this technology and data with tribal partners.
Chief Victor Rodriguez of the IPD expressed gratitude for the APD sharing their NIBIN program, as it will provide immediate access to new gun crime-fighting technology. He encouraged other law enforcement agencies to join this partnership, emphasizing the unified commitment to keeping communities safe through collaborative efforts to fight and prosecute gun-related crime.
The collaboration between the APD and IPD through the sharing of the NIBIN system is a significant step in enhancing law enforcement efforts to investigate and combat violent felony cases in the City of Albuquerque. By pooling their resources and expertise, these two police departments are working together to ensure the safety and security of their communities.
