Eastern New Mexico University's men's basketball team has extended its winning streak to seven games after a decisive 80-59 victory over Oklahoma Christian. The Greyhounds established control early in the game and maintained their lead for more than 38 minutes, trailing for only 14 seconds.
Head coach Daven Võ commented on the team's performance at the start of conference play, stating, "Very happy how we played these games. I want to keep this rolling. When you have good leadership it makes it easy." Võ credited players like Mo Austin and Jose Murillo for their leadership roles.
Senior forward Treyvon Byrd led Eastern New Mexico with a career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting and secured his first double-double as a Greyhound by grabbing 11 rebounds. Cooper Jackson contributed 17 points and recorded four steals, bringing his average to a conference-leading 3.3 steals per game.
Jose Murillo achieved his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He also blocked three shots, placing him second in the conference with an average of two blocks per game and second in rebounding at 9.3 boards per contest.
The Greyhounds dominated inside, outscoring Oklahoma Christian 48-16 in the paint. The team continued its strategy of focusing on defense and capitalizing on turnovers, forcing ten turnovers that resulted in fifteen points.
Eastern New Mexico also excelled in transition offense, scoring nineteen fast break points compared to eight from Oklahoma Christian. In the second half, Oklahoma Christian struggled offensively, shooting just twenty-five percent from the field. Carson Jones led them with eighteen points.
