Today, the House Health and Human Services Committee passed HB 11, a bill aimed at establishing a state-run paid family and medical leave program. The vote ended with six Democrats in favor and four Republicans against.
Terri Cole, President and CEO of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce (GACC), voiced strong opposition to the proposal during the committee session. "Terri was joined by a large number of business organizations, including the Restaurant Association, the New Mexico Chamber and individual businesses who also opposed the bill," it was reported.
The legislation now advances to the House Commerce and Economic Development Committee for further consideration. Updates regarding its scheduling will be provided.
