Chamber welcomes new Kirtland AFB commander Col. Justin Secrest

Col. Justin Secrest, the new commander of Kirtland Air Force Base, was introduced to the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors at a meeting on July 24. Sherman McCorkle, the Chamber’s legislative and state government advocacy chair, presented Col. Secrest to board members.

McCorkle stated that Col. Secrest is now serving as the Wing and Installation Commander at the 377th Air Base Wing at Kirtland Air Force Base. The 377th Air Base Wing oversees installation operations, security, maintenance, medical care, and mission support for a large community on base, including military personnel, civilian employees, retirees, and family members.

Col. Secrest has served in the United States Air Force since 1988 with assignments across various locations such as Georgia, Germany, Alabama, and Iraq. His roles have included flight commander, section commander, logistics officer, wing anti-terrorism officer, wing executive officer, operations officer, squadron commander, wing director of staff and deputy group commander.

Before his assignment at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, Col. Secrest was the commander of the 90th Security Forces Group at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming.

Col. Secrest addressed board members by saying: "The Albuquerque community has welcomed him and his family since he was installed in the position."

Sherman McCorkle said: "Col. Secrest is the new Wing and Installation Commander at the 377th Air Base Wing at Kirtland Air Force Base."

The Chamber expressed its enthusiasm for Col. Secrest's leadership role and extended a welcome to his family as they settle into Albuquerque.
