Alec Baldwin announced on social media Wednesday he has reached a settlement with the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed on the “Rust” movie set on Oct. 21, 2021. The Hutchins family filed a wrongful death lawsuit on Feburary 15, 2022.

“We are pleased to announce today the settlement of the civil case filed on behalf of the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins,” Baldwin said in the Instagram post. “Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”

No dollar amount has been released. But KRQE News 13 reported that as part of the deal, widower Matthew Hutchins will be an executive producer on “Rust.”  There are plans to resume filming in January 2023 with all original actors.

A year ago Baldwin pulled the trigger during rehearsal on what he thought was a prop gun. A live bullet killed Halyna Hutchins.

Attorneys claimed, earlier this year, that Baldwin and production’s ‘recklessness’ and ‘cost-cutting’ efforts lead to Hutchins’ death. They put together an animated video to show how they said everything unfolded after they said they interviewed witnesses. The video they made shows Baldwin pointing a gun at Hutchins during the setup for the filming of a scene when it went off, killing Hutchins and wounding the director Joel Souza.

Hutchins' husband issued a statement this week saying, “All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident.”

A criminal investigation into the incident is still ongoing. It remains unclear when the movie production will resume at the same set near Santa Fe.
