Albuquerque job training recognized as workforce champion of the year

The city of Albuquerque has announced that its Job Training Albuquerque program (JTA) has been recognized by The Associated General Contractors of New Mexico (AGC NM) for its significant contributions to the current construction industry workforce. This recognition applauds JTA's commitment to providing free training to small businesses.

A joint initiative between the city of Albuquerque and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), JTA has facilitated over 100 free skills-based training sessions since 2020. According to a press release by the city of Albuquerque, the program has engaged 1,145 workers from 214 small businesses, resulting in the creation of 791 jobs, a 24% wage increase, and $37.5 million in annual earning power. These figures highlight JTA's success in boosting career opportunities for Albuquerque's workforce.

"The JTA program has significantly contributed to the growth and sustainability of the construction industry in Albuquerque, and exemplifies the spirit of workforce development," said Economic Development Director Max Gruner. "We are committed to investing in programs that help create pathways to success for individuals and businesses in our community."

Workforce Development Liaison Justin Hilliard also expressed his satisfaction with the impact of JTA on local businesses and their employees. "Witnessing the concrete, positive impacts of JTA on small businesses and their employees in Albuquerque is truly rewarding," Hilliard said. "We have observed significant outcomes, and our commitment is unwavering as we strive to further develop JTA, broaden its scope, and extend its benefits to an even larger workforce in the year ahead." He went on to express his gratitude for being awarded the Workforce Champion of the Year by AGC New Mexico, alongside their partners at CNM.
