Albuquerque City Council District 6 Runoff: Important for the future of the district and the city

I have been asked by a number of people to share my observations about the 2023 Council race. I’ve always made a point of staying out of partisan politics but in recent years I have become very worried about the future of our Albuquerque.

UNM Anderson School hosts fall 2023 Rainforest Pitch Competition

The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced that the fall 2023 Rainforest Pitch Competition was recently hosted by UNM Anderson's Innovation Academy in collaboration with UNM Rainforest Innovations. During the competition, the top 10 student finalists, competing for prize money, presented their business ideas to a live audience and a panel of three judges. The event took place at Bow and Arrow Brewing Co. on November 8.

UNM Linguistics Professor releases groundbreaking dictionary of rare language

The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced Dr. Joshua Birchall, recently appointed as Assistant Professor of Linguistics, has unveiled the first-ever dictionary of Moré-Kuyubim. Birchall, one of the few individuals worldwide to decipher Moré-Kuyubim, published the first comprehensive dictionary. This new academic material will serve as a vital resource for studying and preserving this unique language.


Little Lobo Holiday Wish Fund supports UNM student parents

The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced the Little Lobo Holiday Wish Fund, sponsored by the UNM Dean of Students Office and Children's Campus, has been initiated this winter. The fund aims to support student parents by raising $10,000 for distribution as $100 gift cards to 100 Lobo families as a holiday gesture.


UNM Physics and Astronomy Students aid in constructing telescopes for new LWA station

The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced that Distinguished Professor Greg Taylor of the Department of Physics and Astronomy led a team of students to construct antennas for the third Long Wavelength Array (LWA) station. This initiative, funded by a $1 million grant from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), contributes to enhancing the LWA telescope's capability to gather radio wave data from celestial bodies. This project is part of UNM's ongoing efforts to advance in the field of astronomy through practical student involvement.

The Bernalillo County Commission and the City of Albuquerque are precariously sitting on a financial slope that the people may have a hard time recovering from.

UNM welcomes In-N-Out Burger to South Campus TIDD

The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced the inclusion in the South Campus Tax Increment Development District (TIDD). The tax revenues generated by this enterprise will contribute to funding public infrastructure, including roads, utilities, and public facilities, in the specified area.


Sandia researchers elected associate fellows for aerospace contributions

Sandia National Laboratories announced that two of its employees are set to become associate fellows in the class of 2024 at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The individuals, selected based on their AIAA senior membership, over 12 years of professional experience, and recommendations from three AIAA associate fellows, will be recognized for their contributions to aerospace.


Sandia lab introduces tool for assessing viability of closed-loop geothermal systems

Sandia National Laboratories announced the completion of a two-year computational modeling effort for closed-loop geothermal systems, led by a team of experts from various national laboratories. In this initiative, Sandia played a crucial role in the computational modeling of the belowground system, while the National Renewable Energy Laboratory utilized the numerical results to assess the economic viability of the system within their aboveground power plant and economic model.
