UNM Exercise Science Professor recognized by American College of Sports Medicine

The University of New Mexico (UNM) announced that Professor Ann Gibson was recognized by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) with the 2023 Recognition Award. Having contributed significantly to teaching and research at UNM, Gibson has been associated with ACSM since 2010, said a press release by UNM.


Pitch competition at NMSU honors entrepreneurs

The 2023 pitch competition of the Scale Up New Mexico program, hosted by New Mexico State University (NMSU), has recently concluded. According to an NMSU press release, each startup involved in the event delivered compelling pitches of their innovative solutions to a panel of judges.


NMSU academic adviser received ‘A’ Mountain Staff Award

New Mexico State University (NMSU) recently bestowed the "A" Mountain Staff Award upon academic adviser, Victoria Bañuelos, during the NMSU Employee Appreciation Picnic. In addition to her role as an academic adviser for physical sciences and engineering majors at NMSU, Bañuelos also holds positions as a pre-health professions adviser, director of the Osteopathic Medicine Pathway Program and staff adviser for the NMSU National Society of Collegiate Scholars student chapter.


NMSU opens two new agricultural buildings

New Mexico State University (NMSU) inaugurated the Food Science, Security, and Safety Center and the Animal Nutrition and Feed Manufacturing Facility at a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently. Notable participants included New Mexico Lt. Gov. Howie Morales, state Rep. Jack Chatfield, and Acting Deputy Secretary of the New Mexico Higher Education Department Gerald Hoehne, said NMSU in a press release.


Los Alamos research identifies HIV immune response

A study, combining computer modeling and experiments in macaques, has been revealed by Los Alamos National Laboratory. The study indicates that the human immune system controls HIV infections primarily by restraining viral replication in infected cells and eliminating these cells. The research paper, titled "CD8+ T cells control SIV infection using both cytolytic effects and non-cytolytic suppression of virus production", was published according to a press release by Los Alamos National Laboratory.
