The Senate Finance Committee has decided to table Senate Bill 4, known as the "Clear Horizons" bill, with a narrow vote of 6-5. The bill aimed to legislate a reduction in greenhouse emissions by 100% from 2005 levels. This measure would have required the electrification of transportation and potentially impacted various industry sectors.
If voluntary compliance did not meet the reduction targets, the Environmental Improvement Board would have been authorized to implement regulations. Supporters of tabling the bill expressed their gratitude towards committee members who voted against it.
The senators who voted to table the bill include Craig Brandt (R-Sandoval), Steve Lanier (R-San Juan), Nicole Tobiassen (R-Bernalillo), Pat Woods (R-Curry, Harding, Quay & Union), Benny Shendo (D-Bernalillo, McKinley, Rio Arriba, Sandoval & San Juan), and George Muñoz (D-Cibola, McKinley & San Juan).
Further details will be shared in tonight's Legislative RoundUp.
