New Mexico State Representative Stefani Lord has expressed concerns regarding upcoming legislation that she believes would further restrict Second Amendment rights. On February 7, she took to the social media platform X to criticize a proposed bill, describing it as an "AR ban with mandatory bolted-inwq magazines and a restriction of 10 rounds."
"New Mexico already has too many Second Amendment restrictions, and four or five bills are coming up in the next few weeks in our 60-day session," said Lord. "One of those bills is an AR ban with mandatory bolted-inwq magazines and a restriction of 10 rounds. It will also require a gun registry."
According to Lord's post, her comments were in reference to a Gun Owners of America update on an executive order by former President Donald Trump. The order calls for an assessment of ongoing infringements on U.S. citizens’ Second Amendment rights and outlines a plan of action to protect those rights. The update indicates that the U.S. Attorney General has been directed to review actions from January 2021 to January 2025, including regulations from the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Lord also mentioned Senate Bill 279, known as the Gas-Operated Semiauto Firearms Exclusion Act. Sponsored by Senators Heather Berghmans and Micaelita Debbie O’Malley, along with Representatives Charlotte Little, Andrea Romero, and Patricia Roybal Caballero, the bill aims to ban semi-automatic rifles, certain magazines, and other semi-automatic firearms. It seeks to prohibit the importation, sale, manufacture, and possession of gas-operated semi-automatic firearms and high-capacity magazines. If enacted, this legislation would take effect on July 1, 2025.
Stefani Lord is a Republican representative from Albuquerque and the founder of Pro-Gun Women, an organization advocating for Second Amendment rights. Re-elected in 2024 to represent District 22, she remains a staunch advocate for gun rights and government accountability while actively engaging with constituents on issues related to personal freedom.
