The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce (GACC) has announced its legislative agenda for the 2025 session, emphasizing the theme "New Mexico Competes." This initiative aims to enhance New Mexico's ability to attract businesses, workers, residents, and visitors. The Chamber acknowledges that despite New Mexico's appealing attributes, it is not keeping pace with neighboring states and other regions in the global market. As a result, many young people are leaving for better-paying jobs elsewhere.
The GACC outlines four primary goals to improve New Mexico's competitive stance:
1. Improving safety by addressing crime and reducing repeat offenses to make communities more business-friendly.
2. Reducing the tax burden on families and businesses by reforming the gross receipts tax system.
3. Enhancing educational outcomes by striving for high-performing schools.
4. Reforming medical malpractice insurance and implementing measures to attract and retain medical professionals.
The Chamber has provided detailed actions required to achieve these objectives and encourages stakeholders to review their proposals carefully. They express gratitude for support in their mission to represent business interests and promise continued updates from the legislative session.
