The New Mexico Business Coalition is hosting the Adopt a Family Gift Drive in Albuquerque through Tuesday with the goal of helping preselected needy families in the community.
“I think this gift drive will positively affect our community,” David Galloway, executive assistant of New Mexico Business Coalition (NMBC), told the New Mexico Sun. “These gifts will be going to many low-income families in Albuquerque that are not only financially unable to provide Christmas gifts for their children, but are also facing many odds against them. Our goal is to be a light and a blessing to them during this season of giving.”
A list of children’s ages and wishes for presents under $30 is available for those hoping to help in the gift drive. Le Chantilly Fine Pastries and Flying Star Café locations on Rio Grande Boulevard NW, Paseo Del Norte NE and Juan Tabo Boulevard NE are hosting the donation boxes.
“We used businesses within our community and spoke to the owners, who agreed to place a donation box there,” Galloway said. “This not only got local business partners involved, but also made it easier for people all over Albuquerque to donate.”
All donated gifts should be new and unwrapped so parents can wrap the presents for their children. Cash contributions are also accepted by contacting NMBC.
“Based on the generosity from those in the community, we are encouraged and will look for continued opportunities that expand this type of support for needy families and children in New Mexico,” Galloway said. “We hope to get anywhere from 21-42 so each child gets at least one or two items this Christmas.”
NMBC is partnering with Rebound New Mexico on this gift drive, which is its first ever, according to a release from the coalition.
The coalition is an organization that seeks to create a better New Mexico with reasonable laws, regulation and leadership that will prove favorable to business and job growth, the release said. It serves as the state affiliate for the National Association of Manufacturing.
“Rebound New Mexico is an organization with the goal of improving the community, and since that's exactly what this drive is doing during this season, our goals match up perfectly, which is why we partnered with them,” Galloway said.
According to Rebound's website, the group was founded in 2009 to support the community and enrich the lives of New Mexicans. Through charitable outreach, it strives to break the cycle of generational poverty in New Mexico by working with neighborhood organizations, individuals, businesses and public entities.
