Officials from the village of Los Ranchos encouraged community discussion in hopes of finding a resolution to multiple development projects that raised concerns among residents.

"We intend to keep our charter as a rural community as much as we can,” Ann Simon, an administrator at Los Ranchos, told KOB 4. "We are facing a lot of development pressures and we have a couple of issues that have all come up all at once, and I think that is driving a lot of the concern."

A discussion held on Thursday was intended to generate ideas about which issues concern residents. Though the meeting did not produce any solutions, village officials said they will consider the concerns that residents spoke about for future projects.

"They are supposed to provide us with some comments in written form or any form they choose, and then our governing body will be able to digest that and understand what it is that the folks are concerned about," Donald Lopez, the mayor of Los Ranchos, told KOB 4. "So, as we move forward, we'll be able to make any revisions, if any are required."

The development projects under consideration include a 21-unit housing development, slated for a nine-acre plot near Chavez Road and Guadalupe Trail in Los Ranchos, KOB 4 reported in a July article. Another potential project is the Village Center. The 12-acre site at the southeast corner of 4th Street and Osuna Road would include a mix of housing, retail shops, and a senior center. The Sandia View project is expected to feature 32 townhomes on nearly two acres, and the Nijmegen Plaza would be a 12-unit housing development on just over half of one acre of land.
