“National Treasure,” the television series, is filming pieces of the new show in and around Santa Fe; the New Mexico Film Office announced in a recent Santa Fe New Mexican news release.
Based on the movie with the same name, the television series stars Catherin Zeta-Jones as the co-lead. Others in the cast include Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker and Lyndon Smith, the news release said.
Zeta-Jones plays the role of Billie, a woman who went from a penniless orphan to a shrewd entrepreneur and businesswoman. The live-action Disney+ original series is produced by ABC Signature, which is part of Disney Television Studies. It centers on Jess (Lisette Olivera, previously Lisette Alexis), a young heroine out to unmask the truth about the past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.
A release date has not been announced. The filming in New Mexico is expected to be brief.
“No studio. It’s all locations and these locations are on private property,” Jennifer LaBar-Tapia, director of the Santa Fe Film Office, said in the release. “Nobody can see they are there. They are only here for a short amount of time. They are here for a few weeks.”
Despite the brief stay, the production will employ 152 New Mexico crew and approximately 160 New Mexico background talent, a Thursday RCR News Media report said.
“We welcome another Disney+ production and this globally-recognized property to New Mexico, along with its all-star production team and talent,” Amber Dodson, director of the New Mexico Film Office, said in the RCR report. “New Mexico is a place for major television series such as 'National Treasure,' and the economic impact to the state is great – television series are on the ground for months at a time, employ our residents, and utilize local businesses of all kinds.”
