Construction on the new Winrock Town Center resumed after a recent groundbreaking for the next phase of development.

The ceremony took place in front of Regal Cinemas for a project that has been 15 years in the making, KOB 4 reported.

“There will be cafés in the park, so you can come have brunch around the water,” Darin Sand with Goodman Realty told KOB 4. “There’s an amphitheater with 750 seats, a stage that backs the water and a place for evening events, concerts at the park, theater at night, even yoga on the grass during the mornings.”

Additional plans call for a seven-story hotel with condos, an apartment complex, restaurants, retail and health care offices.

A trolley system will be developed for transportation around the site. The park is scheduled to be completed in a year.

The project was first proposed in 2015 with developers pointing to 2018 as a date for opening. But after a series of financial and organizational setbacks, ground was finally broken.

“Development takes a while, this has been a really complex project,” Sand told KRQE. “The pandemic also didn’t help.”

Sand said his company has taken inspiration from entertainment districts in cities like Austin and Scottsdale. They will break ground on the hotel and apartments later in the year.
