Her active involvement in various roles including volunteering activities, Board Member-At-Large position and presidency of the Southwest Chapter was highlighted.
Expressing her feelings on receiving this recognition, Gibson stated "It is humbling and astonishing at the same time. I never, in my wildest dreams, imagined that my name would be on that list with the giants on whose shoulders I stand,”
According to another fact revealed in the press release by UNM, Gibson also made significant contributions as an author. She contributed to the 11th edition of ACSM's "Guidelines for Exercise Testing & Prescription". Additionally, she was the lead author for two editions - 8th and 9th - of academic textbook "Advanced Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription". She has also authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts.
Responding to Gibson's award announcement, Exercise Science Associate Professor Fabiano Amorim shared his views. “Dr. Gibson's recognition with ACSM is a testament to our faculty's excellence in the Exercise Science Program. Her commitment and contributions have elevated our institution's reputation," said Amorim. “This shows that our faculty are not only experts but also actively engaged in contributing significantly to our professional field. Dr. Gibson's recognition adds to the legacy of UNM, associating her name with other respected researchers including a previous awardee from UNM, Dr. Vivian Heyward.”
