Eastern New Mexico University's men's basketball team will finish the 2025 part of its season with two nonconference games in Salt Lake City, Utah, facing Western Oregon and Westminster (UT).
The Greyhounds recently maintained their unbeaten record in Lone Star Conference play by defeating UT Dallas 90-83. This win keeps Eastern New Mexico at the top of the conference standings as they move into 2026. Cooper Jackson led with a career-high 22 points and eight assists, also adding four rebounds and four steals. Jose Murillo recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Treyvon Byrd contributed 12 points, while Austin Abrams added 11. The team shot 59% from the field.
Eastern New Mexico is experiencing its best start since the 1996-97 season, sharing first place in the conference. The Greyhounds lead in fastbreak points and field goal percentage and rank second in rebounding, scoring margin, steals, and field goal percentage defense within their conference. Four players average double-digit points: Jose Murillo (15.3), Mo Austin (14.4), Cooper Jackson (12.7), and Austin Abrams (11.9). Their only loss was to Fort Lewis earlier in the season.
The team averages only 12.3 turnovers per game while forcing opponents into nearly 16 turnovers per contest, turning those into over 20 points per game on takeaways. They also average more than 15 assists per outing. Five players record at least one steal per game, contributing to strong defensive performances.
This week's matchup against Western Oregon marks the first time these programs have played each other in men's basketball. Western Oregon has a current record of 4-5 and is noted for committing few fouls and turnovers but struggles with rebounding and scoring compared to other teams in its conference.
Eastern New Mexico's last meeting with Westminster (UT) was during the 1969-70 season when ENMU won decisively in Salt Lake City—a year they finished third nationally. Westminster enters this week at 6-4 for the current season, leading their conference in several statistical categories including bench points and rebound margin but struggling at free throw shooting and blocking shots.
Both games offer opportunities for Eastern New Mexico to close out this portion of their schedule on a strong note as they prepare for continued Lone Star Conference competition.
