The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team was defeated by Western New Mexico University in four sets (19-25, 25-23, 16-25, 16-25) on Saturday at Drag's Court in Silver City. The loss brings the Greyhounds' overall record to 4-15 and their Lone Star Conference record to 1-7.
Sophia Valdez led the team with 24 kills on 42 attempts, achieving a .381 hitting percentage. Valdez also recorded five digs and a block assist, marking a career-high in kills for the junior outside hitter.
Addison Bartlett contributed six kills, 11 digs, and two service aces. The sophomore middle blocker also had one block assist. Bartlett's serving played a role in the team's only set win, as ENMU narrowly took the second set 25-23.
On defense, Imahni Brown led with 13 digs. Catalina Gutierrez had a career-high 24 assists, while Jayla Yoder added 14 assists, also a career best.
ENMU is scheduled to play UT Dallas at home on Friday, October 24, at 4:30 p.m. in Portales. The upcoming match will be an opportunity for the Greyhounds to improve their position in the Lone Star Conference during Homecoming Week.
