New Mexico swimmer Katy McCarter and UNLV football player Jackson Woodard have been honored with the Mountain West Hal Rothman Sportsmanship Award for 2024-25. This award, established in 2005-06 and renamed in 2007 to honor the late UNLV faculty athletics representative Hal Rothman, recognizes student-athletes who exhibit sportsmanship, ethical behavior, good citizenship outside of sports, and maintain good academic standing.

McCarter, a senior from Fairbanks, Alaska, was a four-year swimmer for the Lobos specializing in sprints and backstroke events. She earned Academic All-MW honors four times and was known for her supportive nature towards teammates and opponents alike. McCarter is noted as the first women's swimming student-athlete to receive this award and the second New Mexico athlete to do so after Habtom Samuel last year.

Woodard, recognized as the 2024 MW Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time first-team Academic All-American, has also been acknowledged for his leadership both on and off the field. The senior linebacker from Little Rock, Arkansas is vying for a spot on the Houston Texans' roster while being active in community service efforts in Las Vegas. He is distinguished as the first UNLV student-athlete and football player to win this award.

The recipients were chosen by the MW Recognition Committee consisting of athletics directors, senior woman administrators, and faculty athletics representatives from across the league.
