New Mexico United has announced that goalkeeper Kris Shakes will remain with the team for the 2026 USL Championship season. Shakes joined New Mexico United in 2024 and has since become a dependable presence for the club, recording six clean sheets over 21 appearances. He also achieved a shutout during his first playoff start.
Sporting Director Itamar Keinan commented on the re-signing, stating, “We are thrilled to be bringing Kris back. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to this club from day one—on and off the field—have been infectious. It’s been amazing to see his growth over the past two seasons, and this is only the beginning for Shakes. We’re excited to have him back in Black and Yellow.”
Shakes' development has been evident during his time with New Mexico United. Before joining the club, he played collegiate soccer at Penn State and gained professional experience with Philadelphia Union II. In 2025, he continued to demonstrate progress by helping stabilize United’s defense throughout both regular season and postseason play.
By securing Shakes for another season, New Mexico United ensures continuity in its defensive lineup as it looks ahead to future campaigns.
