The Trump administration has moved to resume liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and reverse a ban on offshore drilling. This week, leaders from the Interior and Energy Departments acted to remove barriers that hindered the expansion of natural gas and oil drilling. They did so by overturning orders from the Biden administration and committing to approve permits for energy infrastructure projects that have faced delays.
Doug Burgum, Secretary of the Interior Department, signed six secretarial orders on Monday. These orders included lifting restrictions on future natural gas and oil drilling in several areas: off the East Coast, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific Coast, and part of Alaska’s Northern Bering Sea.
