New Mexico Legislature announces 2025 Senate committee changes

The New Mexico Legislature has announced that the Senate Committees' Committee has submitted its recommendations for changes to Senate Standing Committee memberships and leadership roles for the 2025 Legislative Session. These recommendations were submitted on January 21, 2025.

According to the New Mexico Legislature, the Committees' Committee will be chaired by Mimi Stewart (D), with Peter Wirth (D) serving as vice chair. Other members include Craig W. Brandt (R), Pete Campos (D), Joseph Cervantes (D), Katy M. Duhigg (D), George Muñoz (D), Michael Padilla (D), William Sharer (R), Elizabeth "Liz" Stefanics (D), and Pat Woods (R).

The Conservation Committee will be led by Chair Liz Stefanics (D) and Vice Chair Antoinette Sedillo Lopez (D). The Education Committee will be chaired by William Soules (D), with Harold Pope Jr. (D) as vice chair. Muñoz will chair the Finance Committee, with Benny Shendo (D) as vice chair. Linda M. Lopez (D) will lead the Health & Public Affairs Committee as chair, with Martin Hickey (D) serving as vice chair.

Pinto will chair the Indian, Rural & Cultural Affairs Committee, with Soules as vice chair. The Judiciary Committee will be chaired by Cervantes, with Antonio Maestas (D) as vice chair. Duhigg will lead the Rules Committee as chair, with Leo Jaramillo (D) serving as vice chair. Carrie Hamblen (D) will chair the Tax, Business, & Transportation Committee, with Heather Berghmans (D) as vice chair.
