LGBTQ advocacy groups prepare for funding drive amid upcoming challenges

Queer and transgender individuals in New Mexico, along with their allies, are reflecting on their collective efforts in 2024 while preparing for challenges anticipated in 2025. Advocacy groups like EQNM are gearing up for year-end fundraising efforts starting on Giving Tuesday. These funds aim to support the LGBTQ movement as it faces potential threats in the coming year.

EQNM recently released its 2024 impact report, highlighting achievements such as re-establishing the NM LGBTQ Roundtable, hosting a statewide summit and 12 pride events, launching the T.R.A.N.S. NM Project to research statewide attitudes, gaining 700 members, expanding staff, and focusing outreach on rural areas and youth. The organization plans to maintain this momentum into 2025 to protect and expand existing rights.

Donations play a crucial role in building coalitions, reaching elected officials, and mobilizing communities. EQNM suggests several ways to contribute: one-time donations to jump-start activism ahead of the legislative session in January; monthly donations that provide steady income for ongoing challenges; and planned gifts through wills or bequests via FreeWill.org.

"We are grateful for your consideration," stated EQNM representatives. Donations can be made at goeqnm.org/2024EOY.
