Governor declares emergency as Roswell faces severe flooding

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has declared a state of emergency in Chaves County, releasing $1 million in state funds to aid flooding relief efforts around Roswell. The declaration comes after more than 300 people were rescued by first responders since the flooding began on October 19.

The governor visited Roswell on Monday morning and is receiving updates from officials throughout the day. She stated, "My declaration of a state of emergency for Chaves County will help support local recovery efforts in the aftermath of historic and severe flooding in and around Roswell." Gov. Lujan Grisham expressed gratitude for the prompt actions taken by local authorities and state departments, emphasizing that her administration is actively assisting with ongoing relief efforts.

Executive Order 155 allocates $750,000 to the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for emergency response activities. Additionally, Executive Order 156 releases $250,000 to the New Mexico National Guard to further support disaster relief initiatives.
