New Mexico will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Trinity Test with a new roadside sign honoring the Trinity Downwinders. A public dedication ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. The event will take place at the intersection of U.S. Highway 380 and NM 525.
The sign aims to recognize residents of the Tularosa Basin affected by the blast, known as "Downwinders," who experienced health and environmental impacts. Installed by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) following House Memorial 50 passed in 2025, this marker acknowledges those near the test site and provides context for travelers in the area.
