Sandia National Laboratories is set to host a day of learning and exploration focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at the Cochiti Pueblo. The initiative is part of Sandia's ongoing efforts to inspire Native American youth to pursue further education and careers in STEM fields, potentially leading to future opportunities at Sandia.
The event will feature a range of activities for elementary and middle school-aged students. These include Ozobots, Robotic Dog Gizmo, Snap Circuits, experiments with Bernoulli’s equation, engineering with marshmallows and spaghetti, lava lamps creation, water quality biomonitoring, infrared imaging, studying wildfires and solar system investigation.
Colorado State University will contribute its Little Shop of Physics trailer to the event while Los Alamos National Laboratory will bring its Challenge Tomorrow trailer. Both trailers offer an interactive lab-inspired experience where students can engage in hands-on STEM activities. Volunteer Challenge Ambassadors from these labs will also be present to share insights into their work.
The media has been invited to attend the Cochiti Pueblo STEM Day which will take place from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 17 at Cochiti Elementary & Middle School located at 800 Quail Hill Trail, Peña Blanca, N.M., 87041.
