May is National Bike Month, an annual celebration promoted by the League of American Bicyclists since 1956. The event is observed in communities across the United States, aiming to showcase the numerous advantages of biking and encourage more people to take up cycling.

According to the League of American Bicyclists, "Whether you’re riding for fun, fitness, or with family, or taking essential trips to work or shop, you are part of our movement for safer streets, connected communities, a healthier planet, and happier people."

As part of the celebrations, various events are organized throughout the month. Some of the upcoming events in May include National Ride a Bike Day on May 5th, National Bike to School Day on May 8th, Bike to Work Week from May 13th to 19th, and Bike to Work Day on May 17th.

Locally, in Santa Fe, exciting events are also taking place to commemorate National Bike Month. These include the Tour de Murals Outliers Cruise on May 11th, Cycle to Recycle on May 24th, and the Bike Tour - Santa Fe Style Postwar -1990s on June 9th.

For more information on these events and to participate in the local celebrations, individuals are encouraged to refer to the Bike Santa Fe bike calendar.

National Bike Month serves as a platform to promote the benefits of bicycling, from improving personal health and well-being to fostering a sense of community and contributing to a greener environment. It's a time to embrace the joys of cycling and support initiatives that aim to create safer and more bike-friendly streets for all.
