A New Mexico 911 dispatcher experienced a call she’ll never forget after helping a mother and father deliver their baby on the side of the road.

According to a KRQE report, San Juan County 911 dispatcher Jessica Kubishin was taking her last call of a 12-hour shift on Dec. 16 when she learned an expectant mother was in need of help.

“On the side of the road, my water just broke. I’m going into labor,” the woman said on a recording of the call to 911.

The pregnant woman was being driven to the San Juan Regional Medical Center by her partner when they stopped on the side of County Road 3100 near the old Aztec post office after it became clear the baby was arriving early.

“Oh God, it’s coming. Oh God, it’s coming, I feel it coming,” the woman said.

In nine years on the job, this was a first for Kubishin, who knew she would have to help talk someone through giving birth.

“Ok, take deep breathes, ok?” Kubishin responded.

Kubishin says both parents remained calm. Seven minutes after the 911 call started, the baby boy was born.

Dad: “He’s coming out!” Dispatcher: “He’s coming out?” Dad: “Yup, he’s coming out.” Mom: “He’s out.”

Kubishin told KRQE the experience is a memory she will never forget.

“I went home elated,” she said. “I called everyone I knew. I was just the happiest girl. I’d never had an experience like that before here at dispatch in my nine years.”

The parents plan to bring the baby to the dispatcher center to meet Kubishin.
