Horses and their owners in Corrales dressed up in holiday costumes to help out the local fire department’s food and gift drive.

The event, called the "Ride-In, Round-Up," was spearheaded by the Corrales Equestrian Advisory Commission to attract a gathering where the entry fee was the donation of a new toy or food item.

“We had such good collaboration and community involvement,” Patty Carroll, cochair of the Corrales Equestrian Advisory Commission, told KRQE. “It was really fun to put this together.”

Horses decorated with antlers and Santa caps, along with riders in various holiday-themed costumes paraded in an attempt to win prizes for the most creative, elegant, funny and festive. The main objective was to help the Corrales fire department increase the number of donations received.

“Thank you everyone for your donations! Thank you, hot flash riders,” the Corrales Equestrian Advisory Commission wrote on its Facebook page. “Thank you, costumed community and everyone who came to watch and hang out, and thanks to Harry for hauling the goodies to the fire department. If you missed our event, you are welcome to drop off your toy and food donations at the Corrales Fire Station."

The Equestrian Advisory Commission, according to its website, “advises the governing body on ways to encourage the preservation of equestrian trails and lifestyle, assist the village in the acquisition of funding for trails and safety education, programs, events and other supportive activities for its citizens who choose to engage in equestrian pursuits, and advise and assist the village in the development of designated paths, routes and trails.”

Donations of toys and nonperishable food items can still be dropped off at the Giving Tree at Corrales City Hall. Monetary donations are also welcomed. Donations will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 30. All donations can be dropped off at the fire station, located at 4920 Corrales Road.
