Recent shooting leaves Ventana Ranch neighborhood on edge

A shooting in a quiet neighborhood near Ventana Ranch serves as a reminder that crime can happen anywhere these days.

On Sunday night, Aug. 28, residents of the area took cover in their homes when bullets started flying as would-be thieves began their getaway.

Four men were lurking around the normally peaceful neighborhood apparently attempting to vandalize or steal cars, neighbors told KRQE. Security cameras on nearby homes caught the men peering into cars and trying to pull doors open. When someone saw them and attempted to confront them, that’s when the suspects allegedly pulled out guns and started shooting randomly.

“This is a family-oriented neighborhood community,” a resident named Eric told KRQE. “The fact that it happened at night, no one’s really aware what’s going on. Bullets are going through houses. Scary.”

No one was hurt as a result of the gunfire, and the police have reported no arrests in connection with the incident.

“I’m just hoping they can catch these people,” said Frank, a nearby neighbor.

Meanwhile, families vandalized by the shooting have begun repairing their homes, car windows and other items that were damaged, including their sense of security.

“It needs to stop. It needs to stop,” a concerned neighbor told KRQE. “This is unacceptable.”
