Albuquerque residents will soon have an option when it comes to purchasing internet service.
The old take-it-or-leave-it model is a thing of the past, with the arrival of Vexus Fiber. According to KRQE News, the city of Albuquerque made an agreement with the Texas-based internet company looking to expand into the city.
“This is really big news for the city of Albuquerque,” Catherine Nicolaou, broadband program manager, told KRQE News. “This means that every resident in business within the city will have access to affordable, high-quality internet.”
Vexus’s CEO Jim Gleason said the company’s fiber internet will provide users with better-quality internet at a lower cost.
“There are parts of the city that have either no broadband service or have very low-quality broadband. Our fiber network is going to go everywhere throughout the city, meaning that it doesn’t matter what neighborhood you’re in,” Gleason told KRQE News.
Residents welcome the ability to have options when it comes to selecting their internet service.
“I’m all about choices," local resident Erik Strobert told KRQE News. "Especially if they can provide it cheaper or better. I’m open to (either) of those options, if not both.”
Albuquerque resident Mallory Waggoner told KRQE, “I’ve never even been able to really venture out and try to find a different internet service provider. Whereas, my brother, who lives in Austin, has an abundance of choices.”
