On July 13, city officials broke ground for a new gourmet grocery store at The Village at Rio Rancho.

According to KOB 4 News, the new Albertson's Market Street grocery store will be located in the empty lot across from Presbyterian Rust Campus. The store will improve shopping opportunities for the area as well as creating hundreds of jobs for the local population.

"We are going to add roughly 300 new jobs to Rio Rancho at this location right here so we are excited to give back to the community," President of United Family, the operators of Albertson’s and Market Street said, according to KOB 4.

The development is part of a predicted boom in local development.

“We needed this type of developments in Rio Rancho to attract business from the Albuquerque area into the Rio Rancho area," Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull said, according to KOB 4. "One thing we have always struggled with in Rio Rancho is what we call retail leakage, just people spending their money in Albuquerque rather than here in Rio Rancho and this will go a long way to keeping Rio Rancho residents in Rio Rancho."

The Albertson's Market Street grocery store is scheduled to officially open its doors for business in Fall 2023.
