New Mexico homeowners were concerned about possible damage to their homes and property amid the strong winds forecasted to sweep through the Albuquerque area this week.

Josh Jackson, founder of Jackson Insurance Solutions, noted that insurance companies tend to see an uptick in insurance claims when wind speeds are high.

"The initial claim for the wind damage to the property would be something that the insurance company would cover; but if it's just an ongoing leak, then sometimes it's a maintenance issue," Jackson told KOB 4 this week.

Jackson's advice to homeowners is to be proactive before the weather strikes, the news report said. Some of his tips included trimming large trees, taking objects that can be moved by the wind inside, and tying other objects down. He also recommended checking out roofs after any strong storm.

With decades of experience as an insurance agent, Jackson has witnessed items like trampolines rolling down the street because of strong New Mexico winds, which only adds to the importance of making sure loose items are secured ahead of a storm, the report said.

Jackson also stressed the importance of checking property for any damages shortly after a storm, because oftentimes people may not know their house sustained damage until a thorough inspection takes place, the report said.
