Sam Choi finished tied for 5th place and two New Mexico golfers shot finals rounds in the 70s as the Lobos managed a ninth-place team finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club.

The University of New Mexico (UNM) Lobos men's team battled the windy conditions at Bulls Bay Golf Club to settle for a 2-over score during the third round. Bastien Amat and Matthew Watkins each shot 70 to help UNM finish the event at 6-under. Choi was 2-over par 74 in the third round after a sizzling 7-under in the second round. He finished 7-under for the tournament, five shots behind tournament champion Archie Davies of East Tennessee State, who was 12-under after a closing 7-under 65 in the third round.

Host school South Carolina and East Tennessee State ended up co-champions after what began as a four-team playoff was halted due to darkness. The four teams finished at 20-under.

“It was a good final round today from our guys,” New Mexico head coach Glen Millican said on the Lobos’ website. “We had really tough conditions with the wind out of the north. The 70s from Matthew and Bastien were really good rounds. It was nice to move up into a decent finish after struggling on Sunday in the first round.”

Sixteen teams competed in the event, which ran from March 27 to 29. The Lobos return to action on April 9 and 10 at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
