An Albuquerque woman who was behind bars after pulling a gun on someone over a pro-vaccine bumper sticker has been released.
Christina Blair, 33, was jailed following a road rage incident in February. She started honking and cursing at a man who was driving on Wyoming Blvd. near Spain Rd., according to KRQE. Blair was upset over the man's bumper sticker that declared he was vaccinated, KRQE said.
Police said Blair threw water bottles at the unnamed driver. Emotions escalated when he accidentally backed into her car while trying to escape. Blair followed him to a Walgreens store, where she pulled a gun on him, according to KRQE.
Rio Rancho resident Craig Soule said to KRQE that the escalation of road rage in the city is concerning. “It is a little childish to do something like that, especially if people do have different views in regards to that,” he said. “But overall, I think there has to be some sort of solution with the road rage here in Albuquerque.”
The victim apparently captured the entire incident on video.
Law enforcement officials were able to track Blair to her home through her license plate. She admitted to honking at the driver because of his bumper sticker, KRQE said. She told police she pulled out her gun because she was scared.
“I think it’s just important, now more than ever, that we not let the things that are going on with the pandemic and the economy and everything else get to us,” Albuquerque resident Rita Lush said to KRQE. “The road is not the place to express your frustrations.”
The incident was not Blair’s first brush with the law; she was convicted of aggravated assault in 2007. The Albuquerque District Attorney's office filed a motion to keep her behind bars until trial, saying she is “a danger to the community,” according to KRQE. Later, a judge agreed to release her since she does not have a significant criminal history.
