Crime has grown in New Mexico recently, and a small business is still feeling its impact.
When Isabel Greenwood went to open her business, she didn’t expect to see it turned upside down.
“One day we were just surprised because a lot of those items were purchased by really good people," Greenwood said to KRQE. "I thought there were a lot of bad individuals here in the city, but I’m just so overwhelmed to see all of the goodness. People helping and believing in us.”
Isabel started a catering business, Izzy’s Creation’s Native Eats and Treats, which specialized in native dishes in the Navajo Nation, about ten years ago. According to KRQE, she decided to expand into Albuquerque last year when, in December, robbers stole her trailer and all the cooking equipment inside.
In order to get the business running again, Greenwood started a shopping list on Amazon for items she needs, and a community member started a GOFUNDME so she can purchase those items.

KRQE reported last year was Albuquerque’s deadliest year with more than 100 homicides reported.
“(It was) a tough year,” Albuquerque Police Department Chief Harold Medina told reporters at a Nov. 8 news conference. “This is a nationwide trend. We are falling in line with a lot of the other major, big cities.”
