Energy provider Chevron won a solar energy bid for the New Mexico Eddy County project last week designed to provide new solar panels to the state's landscape.

Known as the Hayhurst New Mexico Solar project, the collaboration between Chevron and the Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. will create 55,000 new solar panels on 326 acres of state land that will be able to produce about 20 megawatts of energy for New Mexico infrastructure, according to KRQE.

“The New Mexico State Land Office announced the approval of a new solar energy project in Eddy County that will bring an estimated $7 million in new revenue for the state trust land beneficiaries," said the State Land Office in an official press release

The energy produced through the new solar panels will be used to supply Chevron’s energy needs within the Permian Basin, according to the station. The project will come in two phases, with the second phase expected to generate 11 megawatts of energy.
