Authorities have revealed additional details in a case arising from an 18-year-old Hobbs woman’s alleged attempt to murder her infant.

Alexis Avila is accused of throwing her newborn baby in the trash, Albuquerque CBS affiliate KRQE reported.

Police say the teen mother committed the act behind the Broadmoor Shopping Center.

Dumpster-divers rescued the baby when they were alerted by the child’s cries, KRQE reported.

Interim Police Chief August Fons on Jan. 10 told media members said the case is unlike anything he has seen in his law enforcement career.

Avila has since been released from jail.

“At the time the warrant was signed by the judge and the judge signed a $10,000 unsecured bond appearance bond and at that point, she was released about an hour later,” Fons said, KRQE reported.

Avila supposedly didn’t know she was pregnant until she presented stomach pain to a doctor earlier this month.

Security footage attributed to Rig Outfitters and Homestore showed the five and a half hours elapsed between the time Avila purportedly threw the baby into the dumpster and the discovery of the child, KRQE reported.

The station added that the unidentified infant was taken to the hospital and placed on a feeding tube, as well as given oxygen a blood transfusion.

According to Albuquerque ABC affiliate KOAT, authorities say the teen mother changed her story saying she learned she was expecting the day before she delivered the baby.

Dianna Luce, the district attorney for Hobbs, told the station New Mexico has the Safe Haven Act stating a baby less than 90 days old could be left at a fire station, a police station, or a hospital.
