A search warrant was issued in the investigation of a shooting that resulted in the recent death of a 2-year-old boy in Santa Fe last week.

This comes as the 911 call reported the boy had been knocked unconscious with heavy bleeding, though at that time the injury was said to have been the result of falling from a chair.

KRQE reports the mother, Courtney Harmon, told the police, “The gun was placed in a kitchen cabinet,” upon being asked if there had been one in the home.

According to the report, Harmon, wife of Santa Fe Police Officer Jonathan Harmon, was the one who initially made the 911 call. Though there was no mention of a gun when the call was made, however, investigators found an empty shell casing and projectile on the ground near the child when they arrived on scene.

When the dispatched unit arrived, Jonathan Harmon said he was not sure where the blood was coming from, though he later said the boy must have hit his teeth after confirming he had been bleeding heavily from his mouth, KRQE reports.

The search warrant comes as a judge granted officers permission to search and seize items in the home related to DNA evidence, firearms and ammunition, the report states.
