Mario Armando Diaz, 41, has been identified as the person pronounced dead at the scene of a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputy-involved shooting on the evening of Dec. 7, according to a BCSO release.
Diaz was shot after BCSO received a report regarding a domestic violence incident that occurred at the Allsup’s Gas Station on the corner of Coors and Blake SW, according to the release. Deputies were sent to the Las Mananitas apartment complex to speak with the victim. While interviewing the victim, Diaz, who was suspected of battery, arrived on the scene only to flee when he saw the deputies, who pursued him by foot. When the deputies finally caught Diaz, an altercation ensued.
BCSO Sheriff Manny Gonzales confirmed the sequence of events to KRQE. “Deputies were involved in an altercation," he said. "It appears that our deputy did receive some types of injuries. At least one deputy fired a shot, wounding the suspect fatally.”
