New Mexico State Police late last month apprehended a 29-year-old man wanted for capital murder in Midland, Texas.
A press release issued by the New Mexico Dept. of Public Safety on Sept. 28 said the Texas Rangers requested assistance from NMSP in arresting the suspect, Kionne Lewis, who was wanted by the Midland Police Department.
When officers arrived to take the suspect into custody, he was being held at gunpoint by three ranchers.
"The New Mexico State Police would like to thank the courageous ranchers who located Lewis and aided in his safe capture, as well as the Chaves County Sherriff’s Office, the Roswell Police Department SWAT Team, New Mexico Game and Fish, and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms," the DPS said in the release.
Initially thought to have been in Roswell, Lewis was located on Sept. 27 and authorities pursued him into the next morning when officers responded to a possible robbery on Hidalgo Road in Chaves County.
Police then received another call that Lewis had possibly been spotted on foot, the release said.
Lewis, a former U.S. Airman, is accused of murdering 28-year-old Travae Jackson and wounding her male acquaintance at her apartment, KRQE reported.
