The New Mexico State Police is two weeks in on its proactive operation to deter crime and aggressive driving in the Albuquerque Metro area.

During week two, the department tweeted, 484 citations were issued with two DWI arrests, 28 misdemeanor arrests and 21 felony arrests. Three stolen vehicles were recovered this past week, and five vehicle accidents investigated. Three firearms were recovered, and 146 grams of meth and 331 fentanyl pills were also seized.

"Proactive crime suppression efforts can help solve crimes and often help prevent crime in the Albuquerque Metro area," Tim Johnson, Chief of the New Mexico State Police, said according to KRWG News. "Citizens have described the driving on the interstates in Albuquerque as chaotic, often leaving them feeling unsafe or frightened. Shootings, murder and overall violent crime feels like a daily occurrence in the metro. We hope our plan can help slow this trend."

The station also reported that the operation originally launched on Aug. 17 with 35 officers taking part in the initiative. The operations are focused along I-25 and I-40 in Bernalillo County.
